Jubilee Place Salon: Tastemakers: Curators or Copycats
The fourth in Cole & Son’s series of Jubilee Place Salons saw The Earl of Rosebery, Harry Dalmeny – Honorary Chairman of Sotheby’s UK – and Carole Annett, Interiors Director at Country & Town House join Cole & Son Creative & Managing Director, Marie Karlsson, and consummate host Ed (Lord) Vaizey – former Culture Minister – discuss the topic of Tastemakers: Curators or Copycats?

With a myriad of voices online the panel’s lively conversation touched upon whether tastemakers are still curators and editors of the covetable and collectable or are we in an era of copycatting & virality of content and ideas?

The discussion covered everything from art to interiors, lifestyle to history, with a brief stop at Paris Sotheby’s recent auction of the original Birkin bag (which fetched an eye-watering $10.1 million).

“Previously a tastemaker would be someone who innovated, now a tastemaker is someone who elaborates and makes it possible for others to follow and appreciate their style.”
– Harry Dalmeny, Earl of Rosebery

With event partner, Champagne Bollinger, the sparkling conversation continued into the evening over a glass of bubbles and canapés.
