Carmen tire son nom du célèbre opéra français de Georges Bizet et est un papier peint damassé orné et gracieux aux volutes élégantes, sérigraphié avec une encre métallique subtilement mouchetée sur des fonds crayeux doux : Old Olive, Charcoal, Grey, Cream et Taupe. Le motif date de la France du XIXᵉ siècle et provient presque certainement d’une fabrique de soieries, probablement autour de Lyon.
